  • The Number of Oil and Gas Drilling Rigs in the World Decreased in April

    The number of active oil and gas drilling rigs worldwide fell by 71 in April from March, or 3.8%, to 1,808, according to data from US oil and gas service company Baker Hughes.

    In annual terms, the number of operating drilling rigs increased by 205, or 12.8%.

    In the United States, however, according to the company, the figure for the month decreased by one rig, to 752, in Canada, the number of drilling rigs fell by 87, to 109 from 196 rigs a month earlier.

    The number of drilling rigs in Europe increased by two, to 120. In the Middle East, the figure rose by 14, to 337. In the Asia-Pacific region, the number of such rigs increased by 10, to 219, while in Africa, by contrast, it decreased by four, to 93. In Latin America, the figure decreased by five units to 178 units.

    Since 1944 Baker Hughes has been providing weekly data on the change in the number of drilling rigs in the US and Canada. Since 1975, the service company has published the number of drilling rigs worldwide every month.
