The Number of Oil and Gas Drilling Rigs in The World Decreased in December
The number of operating drilling rigs for oil and gas production around the world in December decreased by 55, or 3.1%, to 1,739, according to data from the American oil and gas service company Baker Hughes.
Over the year, the number of operating drilling rigs decreased by 95, or 5.2%.
In the USA, according to the company, the figure increased by four over the month, to 623 units; in Canada, the number of drilling rigs dropped by 36, to 161 units.
The number of drilling rigs in Europe increased by four, to 122. In the Middle East, the figure decreased by 11, to 336 rigs. In the Asia-Pacific region, the figure decreased by four to 214, in Africa by 11 to 109. In Latin America, the number of installations decreased by one to 174.
Baker Hughes has been providing weekly data on changes in the number of drilling rigs in the United States and Canada since 1944. Since 1975, the service company has published the number of drilling rigs worldwide every month.
