The Number of Oil and Gas Drilling Rigs in the World Decreased in May
The number of active oil and gas drilling rigs worldwide fell by 25 in May from April, or 1.4%, to 1,783, according to data from US oil and gas service company Baker Hughes.
In annual terms, the number of operating drilling rigs increased by 155, or 9.5%.
In the US, according to the company, the figure fell by 24 on a monthly basis, in Canada the number of drilling rigs fell by 19.
The number of drilling rigs in Europe fell by 11 to 109. In the Middle East, the figure rose by 2 to 339 rigs. In the Asia-Pacific region, the number increased by 14 to 233, in Africa – by one, to 94. In Latin America, the number of installations increased by 12 to 190.
Since 1944 Baker Hughes has been providing weekly data on the change in the number of drilling rigs in the US and Canada. Since 1975, the service company has published the number of drilling rigs worldwide every month.
