    The People’s Republic of China Increased Oil Production by 1.2 Percent from January to April 2025

    Between January and April 2025, the People’s Republic of China increased its crude oil production by 1.2 percentcompared to the same period in 2024, while natural gas production grew by 5.3 percent, according to data published on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China.

    During the first four months of 2025, China produced a total of 71.810 million metric tons of crude oil, reflecting a 1.2 percent increase compared to January–April 2024. The total volume of oil processed during this period reached 240.27 million metric tons, representing a 0.8 percent year-on-year increase.

    In April 2025 alone, oil production amounted to 17.72 million metric tons, which is a 1.5 percent increase compared to April 2024. However, oil refining volume for the same month totaled 58.03 million metric tons, indicating a 1.4 percent decline year-on-year.

    Natural gas production in China from January through April 2025 reached 87.4 billion cubic meters, which is a 5.3 percent increase over the same period in the previous year. Specifically, in April 2025, China produced 21.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, reflecting an 8.1 percent year-on-year growth.

    Coal production also increased during this period. Over the first four months of 2025, coal output rose by 6.6 percent, reaching a total of 1.58 billion metric tons. In April alone, Chinese coal mines produced 390 million metric tons, marking a 3.8 percent increase compared to April 2024.

    For comparison, in the full year of 2024, the People’s Republic of China increased its crude oil production by 1.8 percent compared to 2023, reaching 212.82 million metric tons. Natural gas production totaled 246.4 billion cubic meters, up 6.2 percent year-on-year, while coal production reached 4.76 billion metric tons, reflecting a 1.3 percent increase over the previous year.
