The Period of Continuous Gas Production at the Sakhalin-2 Project Has Been Extended by Five Years – Until 2033
The period of constant gas production at the Sakhalin-2 project has been extended for five years – from 2028 to 2033, General Director of Sakhalin Energy LLC Roman Dashkov and head of the Gazprom department Sergei Menshikov report on the pages of the Gas Industry magazine.
“In October 2023, a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of Rosnedra was held, during which the author’s version of the development of the Lunskoye oil and gas condensate field was supported. The approved scenario allows us to extend the period of constant gas production from the Lunskoye field by 5 years (until 2033) and ensure an increase in recoverable hydrocarbon reserves comparable with several years of field development,” gas workers write in a special issue of the magazine dedicated to the anniversary of the project.
The new field development project adopted in 2023 is aimed, among other things, at ensuring uniform gas extraction throughout the year; alignment of the reservoir pressure profile across the field; an increase in the overhaul period of well operation, the article notes.
The main supplier of raw materials for the project’s LNG plant is the Lunskoye oil and gas condensate field. In terms of the volume of recoverable reserves, it is classified as unique. Development of the field, which began in 2009, is carried out in a natural mode with a decrease in reservoir pressure.
At the moment, gas deposits in blocks 2-6 are being developed. Block 1 is not being developed due to its distance from the platform. Production is carried out using the only offshore ice-resistant stationary platform (OIRSP) “Lunskaya-A” (LUN-A).
Currently, the Lunskoye oil and gas condensate field is at a mature stage of development: more than half of the natural gas reserves have been extracted, more than 90% of the production well stock has been completed, and a gas compression unit (booster compressor station) has been put into operation.
