  • TMK Conducted a Safety Check at its Facilities as Part of Steel Safety Day-2021

The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) conducted industrial safety audits at its enterprises and outlined a number of measures to improve working conditions following the Steel Safety Day-2021, which is held annually under the auspices of the World Steel Association.

TMK participates in Steel Safety Day (SSD) for the sixth year in a row. This year, new assets of the company joined the events, including the Pervouralsk Novotrubny (PNTZ) and Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling (ChTPZ) plants. Within the framework of SSD, the company improves working conditions at enterprises, eliminates the risks of exposure to hazardous production factors and involves the maximum number of employees of factories and contractors in this process.

Preparations for SSD-2021 lasted for several months, during which TMK enterprises and contractors implemented the activities planned following the results of previous inspections and checked production facilities to identify new potential risks. The main attention was paid to the most common causes of injuries noted by the World Association for steel: process safety, moving machines and mechanisms, falls from a height, falling objects and traffic on the territory of the enterprise.

To mitigate risks, TMK is updating the infrastructure of its factories. Over the past year, new fences, protection systems, pockets for the safe storage of products and technological tools, specialized platforms and devices that facilitate the work of personnel, and other equipment have been installed. Also, modern IT solutions are being introduced, including digital assistants for bypassing production, which allow you to electronically record violations and organize measures to eliminate them.

“The main value of TMK is our employees, their safety is a strategic priority of the company. We regularly conduct risk assessments, deal with their elimination and implement the best practices in the field of labor protection. At the same time, we understand that zero injuries can be achieved only with the participation of the employees themselves, since, first of all, it depends on them compliance with safety rules in the workplace. Therefore, the company raises the production culture and involves employees in the process of identifying safety risks. Personnel activity brings tangible results – by the end of 2020, the accident frequency rate decreased by 28%, ”said Igor Korytko, General Director of TMK.
