TMK Enterprises have Increased their Energy Independence
The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) has put into operation at the Pervouralsk Novotrubny (PNTZ) and Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling (ChTPZ) plants, which are part of TMK, autonomous thermal power plants (TPPs), which provide enterprises with electric and thermal energy. Partial transition to power supply from our own thermal power plants made it possible to strengthen the energy balance of production sites and reduce energy costs.
The general contractor and equipment supplier for the project was Aggreko-Eurasia. ChTPZ operates two modular TPPs Aggreko with a capacity of 13.44 MW and 4.48 MW. PNTZ operates a modular TPP with a capacity of 14.3 MW, as well as a peak boiler house with a capacity of 16.8 MW, designed to increase the temperature in the enterprise’s networks in the event of extreme frosts.
The thermal power plants are equipped with a catalytic exhaust gas cleaning system and piston engines that run on natural gas. All TPPs are equipped with a system for utilizing associated heat – waste heat boilers collect and send heat energy released during the operation of the equipment to the network of the enterprise. The use of “green” technologies and high automation minimize the impact of thermal power plants on the environment. The solutions used make it possible to purify waste gases from nitrogen oxides by 95% and carbon oxides by 90%.
“The commissioning of thermal power plants has significantly increased the energy independence of the Pervouralsk Novotrubny and Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plants. At ChTPZ, new TPPs produce 50% of electricity and 40% of heat, at PNTZ – 22% of electricity and 20% of heat from the total volume of resources that are necessary for the operation of enterprises. This allows us to obtain an economic effect of 280 million rubles a year, to guarantee uninterrupted supply of production facilities, as well as to control the generation process itself, primarily its environmental friendliness. Our TPPs are economical and, due to the high degree of purification of waste gases, ensure a minimum impact on the environment, ”said Vyacheslav Popkov, First Deputy General Director – Chief Engineer of TMK.
“The launch of thermal power plants at ChTPZ and PNTZ is a landmark event for our company. The start of “green” TPPs in a pilot mode took place on July 6, 2020 and April 1, 2021, respectively. The work of the TPP is supervised by employees of the recently created TMK energy centers, who interact with Aggreko specialists, controlling the uninterrupted power supply of the workshops. The main challenge for our company was the first experience in the Eurasia region of using a heat recovery system, construction of a peak boiler house and a catalytic waste gas treatment system, ”added Mikhail Tolmachev, head of the project department at Aggreko Eurasia.
