  • TMK has Implemented a Laser Quality Control System for Sheet Metal

At the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant (ChTPZ), part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), new high-precision equipment was installed for laser inspection of surface defects in sheet metal. Investments in the project amounted to over 20 million rubles.

The automated system was put into operation on the forming line in the workshop for the production of large diameter pipes (“Height 239”). The equipment is equipped with 69 2D laser devices for measuring surface irregularities and allows detecting sheet defects with a depth of 0.2 mm to exclude flawed sheet products from the production process.

“ChTPZ TMK is one of the main Russian suppliers of large-diameter pipes for key industries; the company’s products comply with the strictest international safety and environmental standards. To meet the high demands of our customers, we are constantly introducing best practices into the technological process. Inspection of sheet metal with the help of a new installation is not provided for in the normative documentation for pipes – this is an additional operation implemented at the initiative of the company and aimed at increasing the reliability of products. The control system is 100% Russian development from idea to implementation and has no analogues in the pipe industry, ”said Valentin Tazetdinov, Managing Director of ChTPZ.

Earlier, ChelPipe implemented a project to modernize the quality control system for large-diameter pipes and equipment for non-destructive testing of seamless pipes.
