TMK: Hosted an Off-site Meeting of ESG Experts and Environmentalists as Part of the ECOTECH-LEADER 2021 National Award
Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VTZ), part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), became the site of a joint visiting meeting of the Committee of the RF Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RF CCI) on environmental management and ecology and the Expert Council of the ECOTECH-LEADER National Prize. Within the framework of the meeting, VTZ presented the project “Implementation of ESG principles in the system of enterprise environmental management”, which was nominated for the environmental award “ECOTECH-LEADER 2021” in the category “Effective environmental management”.
The event was attended by Chairman of the RF CCI Committee on Nature Management and Ecology, Deputy Chairman of the Public Council of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, Honored Ecologist of Russia Sergey Alekseev, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Prize “ECOTECH-LEADER 2021” Vitaly Rasnitsyn, Director of ANO “Green Civilization” Dmitry Fedorov, representatives of the Volgograd and Volzhskaya CCI RF, ecologists of VTZ and other industrial enterprises of the region. The meeting participants discussed modern solutions to ensure the environmental safety of production, the introduction of the best available technologies, the rational use of natural resources and the minimization of environmental pollution.
Elena Maslova, the head of the ecology service of VTZ, presented at the meeting the experience of introducing ESG principles into the enterprise’s environmental management system, which includes the construction of a modern administrative and laboratory complex ECO HOUSE TMK, the implementation of the ECOLAB environmental education project to form the ecological culture of the region’s residents, and the organization of the plant’s Public Environmental Council , which includes ecologists and VTZ employees, participation in the creation of a basic department of industrial ecology at the Volgograd State Technical University (VolgSTU) and other events.
During the visit, environmental experts also conducted a public examination of VTZ, which resulted in a high assessment of the environmental friendliness of production.
“VTZ demonstrates a very worthy example of the implementation of modern environmental policy. My colleagues and I noted with great satisfaction that the path the company is following is correct. The task of transforming the entire industry facing our country is being actively addressed here, ”said Sergei Alekseev.
“The company implements a large-scale investment program for technical re-equipment with an emphasis on green solutions and participates in TMK’s corporate programs to reduce its carbon footprint, reduce energy consumption and increase the share of recycled water supply. We also broadcast our practices outside and are actively involved in environmental education. For example, the plant uses the landfill as an educational and scientific platform, and ECO HOUSE TMK as a platform for scientific discussions, meetings of regional ecologists to discuss initiatives to improve the environment. At the same time, the company sets itself new ambitious goals for improving environmental efficiency, and the nomination for the national environmental award gives an additional incentive to this work “, – emphasized the managing director of VTZ Sergey Chetverikov.
The national award in the field of environmental technologies “ECOTECH-LEADER 2021”, of which TMK is a strategic partner, is awarded for achievements in the development, implementation and promotion of the best available technologies in the field of ecology and nature management in 22 nominations. 89 enterprises from 52 regions of Russia became nominees for the Prize, the results will be summed up on October 29.
