TMK Takes Fourth Place at the steelChallenge World Championship of Steelmakers
The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) took fourth place in the steelChallenge, an online world championship of steelmakers, which is held annually by the World Steel Association.
This year the competition was held for the 15th time. TMK has been taking part in it for the second year in a row and for the first time reached the final following the results of the regional stage of the competition, which took place at the end of 2020. Alexander Nesmeev, an employee of TMK’s Seversk Pipe Plant (STZ), fought for the title of champion in the Industry category.
TMK represented the Europe and Africa region at the competition. The rivals of Alexander Nesmeev were employees of leading metallurgical companies from Brazil, India, China and South Korea. The participants had to simulate the process of smelting steel of a given grade using online simulators of secondary processing and continuous casting on the steelUniversity portal.
“Good results demonstrated by TMK steelmakers at regional and world championships testify to the high technological level of our production facilities. This is also a natural result of the course towards human potential development, which TMK adheres to and which is actively supported by the company’s management. We give our employees all the opportunities for self-development, use the most advanced world practices and help colleagues find motivation and achieve the desired result in the profession. This year, the corporate university TMK2U for the first time organized preparation for the steelChallenge championship on its SOTA2U HR platform, which helped colleagues hone their skills and perform at a high level, ”said Elena Pozolotina, Deputy General Director for Human Resources and Director of TMK2U.
The steelChallenge has been held annually since 2005. Participants are categorized into two categories – students and industry representatives – and five regional groups: North and South America, East Asia and Oceania, North Asia, West Asia, Europe and Africa. Russian metallurgists take part in competitions in the Europe and Africa group. This year, all the prizes in the Industry category at the regional qualifying stage were taken by the TMK team.
