  • TotalEnergies Will Increase Gas Production in Algeria

The French oil and gas company TotalEnergies has entered into an agreement with the Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach aimed at increasing gas production in Algeria, according to a press release from TotalEnergies.

The agreement covers gas production at the Tin Fouye Tabankort II (TFT II) and Tin Fouye Tabankort Sud (TFT Sud) fields in southern Algeria. “By 2026, the combined production from the two fields is expected to exceed 100 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day compared to about 60 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022…,” the release says.

It is noted that the agreement will increase the potential export of Algerian gas to the European market. It is also reported that during the meeting between Patrick Pouyanne, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, and Toufik Hakkar, CEO of Sonatrach, a number of agreements were signed aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two companies in the field of natural gas production , supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe and the development of renewable energy sources in Algeria.

So, Sonatrach and TotalEnergies have extended the supply of 2 million tons of LNG per year for TotalEnergies to 2024. The companies also agreed to study projects for the use of renewable energy sources, the production of renewable low-carbon hydrogen for the export market, and R&D (research and development) projects in the field of low-carbon energy sources and energy transition.

The French TotalEnergies is one of the largest energy companies in the world. It operates in more than 130 countries, producing oil and gas in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and North and South America. The staff consists of about 100 thousand people.
