  • U.S. Drilling Rig Count Rises For First Time in Ten Weeks

The number of operating oil and gas drilling rigs in the United States in the reporting week increased for the first time in the last 10 weeks. This was facilitated by the strongest increase in the number of active gas drilling rigs since October 2016. This was announced on Friday at the oilfield service company Baker Hughes.

The total number of operating oil and gas drilling rigs in the week of July 1-7 increased by 6 units, to 680 units.

Baker Hughes still remains 72 units, or 10%, below its level in the same period last year, according to Baker Hughes.

U.S. oil rigs in operation fell 5 units to 540 (the lowest since April 2022), while gas rigs rose 11 to 135 (the highest since early June), according to Baker Hughes data.

According to Enverus, in the week of June 29-July 5, the total number of active installations decreased by four units, to 732 units. Thus, the indicator, according to Enverus’ own calculations, decreased by 10 units compared to the previous month and by 13% compared to a year ago.
