  • Udmurtneft Doubled the Production Rate of a Horizontal Well Thanks to Fishbone Technology

Udmurtneft (a joint venture between Rosneft and Sinopek) doubled the productivity of a horizontal well drilled at the Chutyrsko-Kiengopskoye field thanks to the use of advanced drilling methods – Fishbone* technology. The starting flow rate was 46.4 tons of oil per day, which is 100% higher than the performance of conventional horizontal wells of this field.

The use of modern drilling technologies is one of the key areas of the Company’s strategy. Rosneft prioritizes innovation, considering technological leadership to be an important competitive factor in the oil market.

The new well was the first one drilled using the Fishbone technology in Udmurtia. The well has five shafts with a total penetration of more than 1.2 thousand meters. Geological support of the drilling process was organized by the corporate institute of Rosneft – JSC Institute of Geology and Development of Combustible Fossils. The calculations were made using the RN-Horizont+ corporate software package.

A multilateral well allows to significantly increase the coverage of oil-saturated areas of the reservoir compared to traditional drilling methods. Currently, the issue of replicating this technology at the enterprise is being worked out.
