US To Resume Offshore Oil Production Off California Coast
US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has instructed Sable Offshore Corp. to resume oil production off the coast of California, the U.S. Department of Energy reported.
“U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright today directed Sable Offshore Corp. to restore operations at the Santa Ynez field and pipeline system to mitigate supply disruption risks caused by California policies, which have made the region and the U.S. armed forces dependent on foreign oil,” the ministry said.
The department clarified that the decision was made under the authority provided by the Defense Production Act and the relevant executive order of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The ministry added that the facility is capable of producing about 50,000 barrels of oil per day, which will allow replacing nearly 1.5 million barrels of imported oil per month.
