Verkhnechonskneftegaz Pumped 2.5 bcm of Associated Petroleum Gas into Underground Storage
The Verkhnechonskneftegaz company, which is part of the oil and gas production complex of NK Rosneft, has injected 2.5 billion m3 of associated petroleum gas (APG) into the underground gas storage since the start of the program for its rational use. The gas storage facility was commissioned in 2019.
The development of the Company’s gas business is in line with the global trend of using gas as a cleaner fuel. Implementation of the Program for increasing the rational use of APG reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves the environmental situation in the regions of production.
For the first time in Eastern Siberia, the APG injection technology was implemented at the Verkhnechonskoye oil and gas condensate field. Its uniqueness lies in the accumulation of associated gas in a temporary underground storage for subsequent rational use, and not to maintain reservoir pressure.
The technology made it possible to bring the level of APG utilization at the Verkhnechonskoye oil and gas condensate field to 97%, which is one of the best indicators in the industry.
Associated gas obtained in the process of oil production at the Verkhnechonskoye field is used for the technological needs of the field – for the operation of a gas turbine power plant, and is also used as fuel for oil heating furnaces and boiler houses.
As part of the project, a gas compressor station with a capacity of over 1 billion cubic meters per year, a 41 km long injection gas pipeline, and six gas injection wells for APG injection were built at the Verkhnechonskoye field. The storage area is 330 km2, or about a quarter of the area of the entire deposit.
