Zarubezhneft Increased Oil Recovery in Cuba
Production at Boca de Jaruco has increased thanks to the technological innovations of the Russian company, said the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Sergei Tsivilev, at a meeting with Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas.
The Boca de Jaruco field is located in the north of Cuba and is characterized not only by large reserves of about 3 billion tons of oil, but also by difficult production conditions. The oil here is highly viscous and bituminous.
Mining at the field has been going on for 30 years. In 2011, Zarubezhneft created a joint venture with the Cuban Cupet for further development of the field.
The company drilled pilot horizontal wells, increasing the flow rate to 52 tons per day.
It is planned to reach volumes of 2 million tons per year, which will allow Cuba to largely solve the problem of oil shortage on Liberty Island.
