Growth Through Technology and Partnership: How a Division of TAGRAS Holding Strengthens Its Position in Directional Drilling

In 2025, the geophysical division of TAGRAS Holding demonstrated steady growth in the segment of directional drilling. Despite a challenging market environment, the division not only maintained but expanded its client base, and also reached a new level of cooperation with a number of partners.

The key result is the transition from a subcontracting model to direct contracts. Such a step requires a high level of technological and organizational maturity, but it opens up additional opportunities for clients in terms of process control and service quality.

As noted by Head of Directional Drilling Vladimir Zolotukhin:

“Against the backdrop of a general decline in demand, we managed to maintain the trust of our partners and even expand our client list. With a number of companies, we have reached a new level of cooperation — this is a serious indicator.”

Technological base as a growth driver

Today, the geophysical division is actively developing logging-while-drilling (LWD) capabilities. In recent years, these capabilities have expanded significantly: from a single tool to a flexible system of autonomous modules that can be combined depending on the specific project requirements.

“We use neutron, lateral resistivity, and gamma-gamma logging. Acoustic studies are at the implementation stage. Our tools can be integrated with almost any telemetry system,” emphasizes Vladimir Zolotukhin.

One example of in-house development is a near-bit module with a diameter of 120 mm. It is already used in commercial projects and allows real-time acquisition of critical downhole data: trajectory parameters, formation characteristics, and drilling equipment performance.

For clients, this means more precise drilling control, reduced risks, and faster response to changing geological conditions.

Focus on efficiency and independence

A strategic priority is the development of an in-house service and production base for telemetry equipment. This will allow the division to reduce dependence on external suppliers, optimize costs, and improve service speed.

“It is precisely our own telemetry production and service capabilities that will enable us to work even more efficiently and maintain a high quality standard,” the head noted.

At the same time, modernization of the existing equipment fleet and active internal innovation efforts are ongoing.

From regions to international projects

The TAGRAS Holding division continues to implement projects in key oil and gas producing regions: Tatarstan, the Orenburg and Samara regions, and the Komi Republic. At the same time, some contracts already ensure workload for several years ahead.

Among the current tasks is the launch of logging-while-drilling services for a major foreign client. A two-stage business project has been prepared and approved, a technical solution has been developed, and an audit is expected.

“We are fully ready to demonstrate our capabilities and are considering entry into new markets, including Eastern Siberia and international projects,” says Zolotukhin.

Operational model: speed and synergy

One of the factors behind efficiency has been the transformation of internal processes. For example, technologists and telemetry specialists operate within a unified information environment, which allows faster data analysis and decision-making.

A 24/7 drilling support service provides continuous assistance to field teams. This is especially important for clients focused on minimizing non-productive time and improving drilling control.

“From any location, our specialists can quickly obtain консультацию from a technologist, geologist, or telemetry specialist and immediately apply the solution in practice,” the head emphasized.

The modern oilfield services market places increased demands on contractors — from technological capabilities to the level of customer service. Clients increasingly expect dedicated teams for specific projects and high flexibility in operations. Under these conditions, TAGRAS Holding is focusing on developing competencies and strengthening teamwork.
