OMK Premium Threaded Connection Recognized as Best Invention in Nizhny Novgorod Region
United Metallurgical Company (OMK) received the regional I.P. Kulibin Award for the best invention of the year in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The award was granted for the development of the premium threaded connection OMK Vega for casing pipes designed for the development of complex oil and gas fields. The company has already obtained a patent for this product, which was designed and brought into production by OMK engineers.
The key feature of the threaded connection is that it maintains strength and tightness in wells drilled at angles and horizontally, even under high pressure and temperatures above 180°C, as well as in corrosive environments.
OMK products successfully passed bench tests in accordance with the international standard API 5C5:2017, confirming the highest reliability level — CAL IV. Pipes with OMK Vega threading are already being used at Russian fields.
“Conditions for developing oil and gas fields are becoming increasingly complex, requiring new technical solutions. The patented OMK Vega threaded connection belongs to our premium product line designed for harsh well conditions, including hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide environments. I am proud that this is entirely a development of our engineers and technologists. The pipes with this threading are produced at the most advanced seamless pipe manufacturing facility in Russia,” said Alexander Barykov, Managing Director of the OMK Vyksa plant.
The winners were awarded in Nizhny Novgorod on March 31.
